The role of the atmospheric electric field in the dust‐lifting process

Esposito, F Molinaro, R Popa, C I Molfese, C Cozzolino, F Marty, L Taj‐eddine, K Di Achille, G Franzese, G Silvestro, S ...

Published in Geophysical Research Letters

Mineral dust particles represent the most abundant component of atmospheric aerosol in terms of dry mass. They play a key role in climate and climate change, so the study of their emission processes is of utmost importance. Measurements of dust emission into the atmosphere are scarce, so that the dust load is generally estimated using models. It is...

Cassini imaging search rules out rings around Rhea

Matthew Tiscareno Burns, Joseph A Cuzzi, Jeffrey N Hedman, Matthew M

Published in Geophysical Research Letters

[1] We have conducted an intensive search using the Cassini ISS narrow-angle camera to identify any material that may orbit Rhea. Our results contradict an earlier and surprising inference that Rhea, the second-largest moon of Saturn, possesses a system of narrow rings embedded in a broad circum-satellite disk or cloud.

Clathrate formation and the fate of noble and biologically useful gases in Lake Vostok, Antarctica

Mckay, C P Hand, K P Doran, P T Dale Andersen Priscu, J C

Published in Geophysical Research Letters

[1] Lake Vostok is a large lake located 4 km beneath the East Antarctic Ice Sheet that should be supersaturated with dissolved gases in equilibrium with clathrate present in the water column. Here we show that if the age of the lake is such that the lake water mass has been cycled over 30 times then the total dissolved gas equilibrates at about 2.5...
